The Thrifty Zombie (or, as some call me... Tim) scours thrift stores for clothes at a good deal.

They all are in good shape, they just need a beauty makeover.

They are thoroughly cleaned, and then upgraded into something any fashionable zombie would wear.

The Story behind CreepHouse Cinemas

Some call me...

Tim.

My background is in music, with a degree in tuba performance, and a focus on music composition. More so than my tuba, I also play didjiridoo. (It has multiple spellings.)

As an '80s kid, I certainly have a fond remembrance of Halloween. Especially the candy of course, but it wasn't until somewhere around 2016 that I developed a real deep love for Halloween. There are multiple reasons for that (a future blog post), but it was around then that my muses began channeling all kinds of spooky creativity through me.

An abundance of ideas so deep, that at best, I can only follow through on a small portion of them.

First, it was just putting together an audio loop of creepy ambient sound effects.

Then I added some triggers to play a welcome scene for Trick-or-Treaters approaching the front door.

Then I discovered window projections, and started making my own little videos to play in the windows.

By then I was writing stories and original music, and the window projections were destined to grow into projection mapping.

By 2021, I got the mapped projections working, and I started showing a triggered short story on the side of the garage as Trick-or-Treaters approached.

"Mutant Plants From Mars" was the first properly mapped projection show. (See poster on left.)

Each year, I write a new story and original score, make a video for it, and that is shown as Trick-or-Treaters approach. Then there is a walkthrough display in the back of the house, based on the year's story.

It was only natural that this would all evolve into CreepHouse Cinemas, the theater that collects bad B horror movies from other dimensions, bringing them to our dimension on Halloween night.

The best excuse to write whatever crazy ideas that come to me!

My biggest hindrance every year was trying to overcome the fact that so many of the things I set up for displays and effects are not weather proof...

but my entire setup is outside!

In 2024, I spent a great deal of effort trying to overcome this. How do I set up a somewhat stable protection from rain, and sometimes strong winds, so I can spend a month putting everything together? How do I do this with a relatively stable, yet temporary structure?

LOTS of experimenting. Lots of failures where Mother Nature taught me where I needed to improve my build. Lots of pipes, and tarps, and spring clamps later, I finally learned a lot about what works, as well as what will fail in only a little bit of wind.

Now, I have a mounted flat screen in the theater, which is constructed of EMT, Maker Pipe connectors, PVC, tarps, and lots of spring clamps.

With that structure protecting the electronics and setup inside the "theater", I am no longer bound to only setting up what I can once I know the weather will be safe on Halloween. (There will be videos coming on what works and what fails for outdoor temporary structures.)

Now that I have CreepHouse Cinemas Theater in the backyard, I offer a new original movie every Halloween.

The movie is usually around 2-4 minutes. Once the movie is done, visitors exit through a maze based on the story. The movie's soundtrack, and other effects await them as they work their way through the maze. Characters from the movie await them at the end.

Want to hear the stories? Most of them have two soundtrack options...

* with the story being told, and

* musical soundtrack only (without the telling of the story)

The stories can also be told without video.

So as long as the theme of the story fits your haunt (witches, mad scientist, man-eating plants, etc.) try the soundtrack with the story.

Or,

use just the the musical soundtrack without telling of the story.

Have a look around.

From original stories, music, and costumes, CreepHouse Cinemas has lots of unique Halloween goodness to offer.
